The way
we look at sports is changing. Just like every aspect of business,
technology and life in general innovation takes place and the way we do things change.
Change scares some people and in a way it forces them to hold on to old
practices. But I am willing to bet some
of those very same people own an IPhone 4 or a hybrid car or even a Kurieg. Just like we are open to upgrading our flip
phones to smart phones we need to be open to looking at WOBA versus batting
average. Total QBR has to be the baseline
for quarterback measurements rather than the classic QB rating. Sabermetrics aren’t “dumb”, Analytics aren’t
“stupid”. They are innovational. They are trending. And they are here to stay. Why not take advantage of the brilliant minds
that have given us a chance to dig deeper into the stats and build a stronger
way of analyzing it. Moneyball just
scratched the surface of advanced statistics in sports. But the truth is teams across every major
sport are starting to take these statistics seriously even to the point of
developing Team Analytic departments. I guarantee your favorite team is doing it. With the amount of money invested into players why not take advantage of
data that can help accurately predict future success? If I can get just one sports fan to begin to
look at stats the way I do then this blog will be a success (in my eyes at
least). Enjoy.
