5 For Thought (NCAA Title Game Edition)

In honor of last night’s National Championship game, todays 5 for thought will focus on statistics from the matchup between Louisville and Michigan.

Per ESPN Stats and Info, Luke Hancock’s 5 three pointers were the most made without a miss in a National Championship Game

He was named the games MVP.  He also was coached by Jim Larranaga (now head coach at UMiami) at George Mason from 2009-2011 before transferring to Louisville.

Spike Albrecht first half line: 6-for-7 FGs, 4 threes, 17 pts

            2nd half line: 0-for-2 FGs, 0 threes, 0 points

In Michigan’s first 5 tournament games Trey Burke averaged 37.8 minutes per game

He played 26 minutes last night

Trey Burke was the 2013 John R. Wooden Award Winner (given to the most outstanding player of the year.)

Of the last 5 Wooden Award Winners who played in the National Title game (Anthony Davis, Shane Battier, Elton Brand, Ed O’Bannon, Laettner) not one played fewer than 36 minutes in the championship game

With the Louisville victory last night, that makes 11 straight champions who ranked in the top 20 in both Adj. Off. Eff. and Adj. Def. Eff.
